Descending Lion's Head by prperold Descending Lion's Head by prperold
Every full moon a large amount of people hike up Lion's Head to enjoy a sundowner with friends, and then walk back down under the moon light. Head lamps still come in very handy, even with the bright moon, and the lights of Cape Town. There was probably a hunderd or more people up there.

I tried to keep the exposure time down to eliminate star trails, but this was shot with my lens wide, open. Had I upped the iso, the noise would've been too much for me.

Fantastic Phil, really great composition, and light throughout. The addition of the hikers headlamps really adds a unique twist to the shot.

Pretty cool indeed. Another option would be to have a light trail/hiker close to camera bottom right to put it in perspective and then have the trails coming down the rock. Good job w/ the execution here!

It looks like an illustration ... I'm trying to come up with exactly why, but I can't find the words for it. This is not a bad thing. :) It's just a thing. I like the lamp trails, although I didn't see them until I read the description and looked at it again. It would have been awesome to have more of them further down in the frame, but I suppose you have to take what you can get. :)

I think the reason it looks like an illustration is because of the soft light. The shot was illuminated by the Cape Town City lights and the full moon in a 90 second exposure.

Nice one!

Did you take any pano shots from up there? Are the mountain lights on yet?

No, I didn't take any pano's. Somehow I didn't think of it. The lights on Table Mountain were on for a while yes. Thanks Dom :)

The lighting is awesome. Would've loved to see it without the head lamp trails though, it distracts quite a bit.

Thanks Fred. As I was walking down, I saw the lights coming down, and it gave me the idea. So I guess had it not been for the lights, I probably would not have shot this :) But I agree, out of a pure nature point of view, withouth the lights would definitely have been a cleaner shot. Thanks for looking.
